What Makes Us Green?
Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive - full hybrid technology that can operate in petrol mode, electric mode and a combination of the two.
The award winning Toyota Prius changes seamlessly between sources to consistently deliver maximum performance and efficiency earning its position as the most economical, innovative and ecologically-responsible car in its class.
- The petrol engine is maximised for operating efficiency providing only 104g of CO2 at a combined fuel consumption of 65.7mpg
- The Prius is the only car of its kind that you can drive on electric power alone, for up to 1.2 miles at up to 31mph
- The electric motor is remarkably quiet compared to a petrol engine and neither consumes any fuel nor produces any CO2 emissions
- You never plug in the Prius
- While driving, when the battery is low the petrol engine powers the generator to recharge it
- When braking, and during deceleration, the electric motor acts as a high-output generator and recharges the high-power battery. This kinetic energy is normally wasted as heat when braking or decelerating
- During braking the Prius consumes no fuel, the use of the electric motor as a generator makes negligible noise, and the Prius produces zero emissions
- When at standstill the car releases zero emissions and is silent
- At the end of its days, 85% of the Prius can be recycled and 95% of its materials can be recovered. This includes the hybrid system's high-voltage battery, too, which is fully recyclable in a complex, but efficient and environmentally responsible process
Small Green Steps
Go Green Taxis employ the green driving techniques and green maintenance strategies outlined below. By making these small changes, we are able to reduce our environmental impact and are pleased to share these simple strategies with our clients.
- Observe the speed limit - fuel efficiency drops significantly over 60 mph
- Avoid accelerating or braking too hard - aggressive driving can use a third more fuel than smooth driving
- Use high gears and avoid over-revving
- Turn the engine off while waiting
- Avoid congested areas to reduce travel time
- Vehicle share when possible
- Use air conditioning sparingly
- Remove unnecessary items from the car to reduce weight and fuel consumption
- Ensure regular maintenance on the car
- Ensure tyres are not worn out and have the correct tyre pressure to increase fuel efficiency
- Check wheels are correctly aligned to reduce fuel consumption
- Use the correct oil to improve fuel efficiency
- Keep the seal on the fuel cap air tight to prevent evaporation
- Keep windows closed so the wind doesn't slow the car down
